PCS Durham Region

We are the Durham Region of the Prostate Cancer Support Canada network providing informed, experienced support from survivors. PCSC is a national organization with over 50 affiliated groups across Canada that support the cause of prostate cancer awareness, information and, especialy, support.   As a volunteer based non-profit support group founded in 1995 for those diagnosed with prostate cancer and their caregivers, PCS Durham Region provide information, counsel and camaraderie covering the journey through diagnosis, decision-making, treatment, and survivability afterward.
Note that we are not health care professionals, but we are experienced volunteers, largely survivors and provide access to speakers at our public meetings from the health care field in Durham and the GTA. Through contact at the individual level, to attendance at and participation in group meetings, we can assist by providing useful contacts, reference materials, group discussions, and presentations by health professionals. We make available knowledge about prostate cancer including up-to date treatments available and other lifestyle activities that enhance recovery and quality of life.
Part of our mission is to help raise awareness of prostate cancer. We promote measures that men should be taking to ensure they are not caught by a surprise diagnosis of this disease, especially at an advanced state. We also provide information and share our personal experiences with men who are facing the challenge of selecting their choice of treatment.
